This September, I am currently sprucing up the studio, in preparation for taking part again in North East Open Studios, which runs from the 7th-15th September, opening the doors to over 300 creative studios in the NE of Scotland.**This year, as the last few years, my dad will also be exhibiting his woodturning - under Wid 'n' Things at the Fernweh studio, and after a challenging year for my family we are also looking to support a great cause.
Earlier this year, my amazing dad was sadly diagnosed with Advanced Prostate Cancer, which was a complete shock to us all. It’s been a difficult time as we’ve come to terms with this as a family. Although there is no cure, my dad’s medical team are positive around his prognosis and he is currently undergoing treatment, which are rapidly developing all the time.

My dad wanted to do something positive after this difficult year, and we’ve decided to hold a fundraising Maker Raffle, with all proceeds going to Friends of ANCHOR, to try and create something positive from a difficult year.

Friends of ANCHOR are a charity who directly support people affected by cancer and their families in the north of Scotland, The ANCHOR Unit (Aberdeen and North Centre for Haematology, Oncology and Radiotherapy) is a collective of specialised wards and clinics within Aberdeen Royal Infirmary. It is the central hub of cancer and haematology care for the north of Scotland.

While we both planned to donate some of our own handmade work to the raffle, I put out a call to the local Maker Community, and I've been absolutely overwhelmed by the response to the raffle, and I'm delighted that we have nearly FORTY handmade prizes that have been donated, with all the proceeds raised from the raffle going to support the incredible work that the ANCHOR unit does for cancer patients in the NE of Scotland.

There are so many incredibly generous prizes, and I've had some really emotional conversations with makers who have had family members use the ANCHOR unit, or who have been affected by cancer in some way. Thank you so much to all the makers who donated to the raffle, I appreciate it so much.
